[THE INVESTOR] LG Electronics may adopt an iris scanner for its next flagship smartphone, industry sources said on Dec. 11.

According to the Netherlands-based LetsGoDigital, the Korean smartphone maker recently filed a patent related to iris-scanner technology to the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Industry watchers said it is highly likely that LG Electronics may adopt the feature for its upcoming flagship, presumably the LG G7.

LG’s G6 and V30 smartphones launched this year only supported fingerprint screening.

As iris scanners are considered to be tougher security compared to fingerprints, global tech giants have been seeking to implement the technology in their mobile devices.
