[THE INVESTOR] Mercedes-Benz Korea topped rivals in sales of imported sport utility vehicles during the January-November period, industry data showed on Dec. 14.

In the first 11 months, Mercedes-Benz Korea sold a total of 11,395 SUVs, surging 38 percent from 8,263 units a year earlier.

Land Rover Korea ranked second with the sale of 9,639 SUVs, according to data from the Korea Automobile Importers and Exporters Association.

SUVs accounted for 18 percent of the German carmaker’s overall sales of 64,902 units in Korea for the cited period, the latest data showed.

With the launch of the GLA compact SUV in September, the German carmaker has beefed up its SUV lineup to woo local customers as the appetite for recreational vehicles grows across the world.

Mercedes-Benz’s SUV lineup includes the Mercedes-Benz GLA, GLC, GLE, and GLE Coupe.
