[THE INVESTOR] SoftBank Ventures Korea, venture capital arm of the Japanese tech giant, said on Dec. 13 that it has invested 1.5 billion won (US$1.38 million) in local mobile game developer Caret Games

Caret Games has now secured up to 3 billion won in investment, including 1.5 billion won from local VC SL Investment.

Established in 2015, Caret Games plans to debut a new mobile massively multiplayer online role-playing game “Rebirth” on Dec. 15. The game has already clinched 530,000 preorders.

“MMORPG has become a prominent genre in the mobile game market as mobile devices can now support high-quality games,” said Chang Eu-gene, senior associate at SoftBank Ventures.

“Caret Games allows multiple users to play simultaneously. We expect to provide distinguished services by adopting the MMORPG experience from PC to mobile space.”

“We worked hard to bring the PC gaming experience to the mobile environment. Through the closed beta test, we have received a lot of feedback and have been improving the game quality and its completeness,” said Caret Games CEO Son Ho-yong.

Earlier, Caret Games received an undisclosed sum of investment from IBK Capital and the Korea Association of Private Investment Fund, with a valuation of 10 billion won and 15.6 billion won, respectively.
