[THE INVESTOR] Jeju Air, Korea’s leading budget carrier, said on Dec. 20 it will increase the number of planes in its fleet to 39 next year.

The carrier has added its 31st plane, the 189-seat B737-800 leased jet, to strengthen services on routes to Jeju Island and Southeast Asian countries during the winter season, the company said in a statement.

With the expanded fleet, Jeju Air plans to open routes to Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam next week, and Gagosima in Japan early next month, it said.

Helped by route diversification and more planes, Jeju Air’s net profit jumped 13 percent to 32.1 billion won (US$29 million) in the July-September period, from 28.5 billion won a year earlier.
