[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Motor will present future mobility technology at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics next year, as the official sponsor of the sports event, the company said on Dec. 20.

From fuel cell to autonomous cars, the carmaker will offer test drives during the Olympics, giving visitors from around the world the chance to experience the company’s long-range self-driving technology and environmentally friendly vehicles.

The company will operate two G80 vehicles and five fuel cell vehicles to demonstrate autonomous driving over 200 kilometers between Seoul and PyeongChang.

The vehicles satisfy the requirements for level four, the second-highest level defined by SAE International on driving automation. Along with level five, level four is categorized as “completely autonomous,” the company explained.

The fuel cell autonomous vehicles have adopted the latest connected technology based on the fifth-generation network technology. In collaboration with KT, Hyundai Motor will showcase technology that controls the features of smart homes while driving, and monitors the health condition of drivers. Passengers can even consult medical doctors through video conferencing.

The carmaker also plans to operate fuel cell buses and passenger cars to transport sports teams and visitors to Olympic events.

Under the slogan “Light Up Your Energy,” Hyundai will hold various events including a figure skating gala.
