[THE INVESTOR] CJ Foodville announced on Dec. 21 that it has installed chargers of US luxury electric vehicle maker Tesla at 12 buffet and steak house VIPS outlets.

The 22 chargers are set up at VIPS restaurants in Seoul, Busan, Incheon and Gangwon Province, and can be used round-the-clock.

CJ Foodville said it takes more than 10 hours to fully charge electric cars at its stations.

“Like the ones at CU convenience stores, they are not superchargers,” a CJ Foodville spokesperson told The Investor. “Electric vehicle users can charge around 10-watt per hour, and while doing that they can enjoy our food and beverages.”

BGF Retail, the operator of Korea’s largest convenience store chain CU had announced on Dec. 18 that it has set up seven Tesla destination chargers at four outlets.

Tesla officially entered Korea in June. Earlier this year, Jonathan McNeill, president of global sales and services at Tesla, pledged that the company would speed up the expansion of charging infrastructure here. Tesla Korea currently has 12 supercharger stations and 130 slow-charging stations in the country.
