[THE INVESTOR] The Korean government aims to adopt cloud computing services at 180 public organizations in 2018, the ICT ministry said on Jan. 11.

According to an annual survey of 1,225 organizations across the country, conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, 188 public organizations said they plan to adopt the service this year.

Cloud computing allows users to share computer resources, including software, information and online connections, through remote servers that save data.

In 2015, the ministry announced a vision to nurture the local cloud computing industry. From 2016-2018, the government is hoping to save 370 billion won (US$340 million) in the public sector through the adoption of cloud computing.

The government also aims to expand the size of the Korean market for cloud computing to 2 trillion won by the end of this year.
