[THE INVESTOR] Lotte Fine Chemical’s operating profit this year will rise by more than 75 percent, said Shinhan Financial Investment on Jan. 16, maintaining a “buy” recommendation and raising the target price to 80,000 won (US$75.16) from 74,000 won.

Dented by the one-off maintenance costs and meek prices, its operating profit from the fourth quarter last year fell 11.4 percent from the previous quarter to 26 billion won, missing market consensus, said analyst Han Sang-won.

Its quarterly profits however will begin to pick up and that of the whole year will increase 75.2 percent to 194.5 billion won, forecast the analyst.

This will be mainly propelled by the price rise of chlorine products, according to Han. Caustic soda price will gradually increase while revenue from its cellulose range will spike 35 percent, noted the analyst.

Investors should pay attention to the continuing rise of chlorine product prices, strengthening its financial health boosted by improving earnings and rising expectations for entering new business, added Han.
