[THE INVESTOR] Lotte Group said on Feb. 12 it will use a new artificial intelligence technology-based hiring system from this year’s annual recruitment that starts in March.

The new system, co-developed by Lotte Data Communication and a local language processing company, will evaluate cover letters to find out which of the applicants best fit the jobs and the company. The system will also check for plagiarism of cover letters by using big data analysis.

The new system will be used first by its main affiliates, including Lotte Department Store and Lotte Mart, as a pilot program with plans to extend to other subsidiaries in phases.

Lotte signed a partnership with IBM Korea in 2016 to adopt the US computer giant’s AI system Watson into its diverse businesses. In September last year, Lotte Confectionery launched new products based on data analysis using the system.
