Hyundai, Kia European sales up 10% in Jan.

[THE INVESTOR] Combined sales of cars made by Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia Motors jumped 10 percent on-year in Europe last month, industry data showed on Feb. 19.

In January, Hyundai and Kia sold 80,741 vehicles in the vast automobile market, up from 73,327 units a year ago, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).

In Europe where small-sized vehicles are popular and stricter emissions standards are applied to diesel-powered vehicles, Hyundai sold 44,108 autos last month, up 14 percent from 38,559 units a year ago. Kia‘s sales rose 5.4 percent to 36,633 units from 34,768 during the same period, the latest ACEA data showed.

Hyundai accounted for 3.5 percent of the European passenger car market last month, up from the previous year’s 3.3 percent. Kia‘s share slightly fell to 2.9 percent from 3 percent.

In the first month of 2018, overall automobile sales in the 28 European Union member countries climbed 7.1 percent to 1.25 million units from 1.17 million a year earlier led by strong demand in Spain, Italy, France and other countries, the latest findings showed.
