[THE INVESTOR] LG Electronics said on Feb. 22 the accumulated sales of its ultra-slim laptop series has exceeded the 1 million unit mark in Korea.

The Gram, which weighs less than 1 kilogram, was a sensation when it hit the local market in 2014 and sold 125,000 units, according to the company. The number had nearly tripled to 350,000 last year.

The Korean tech giant said the achievement is remarkable in a market where laptop sales are waning and smart devices are growing in popularity.

LG said it will showcase a model that features a battery life of up to 31 hours this year and continue to expand its presence in the global computer industry.

The 2017 edition of the 14-inch Gram was recognized as the world’s lightest commercially available notebook computer in the book of Guinness World Records.

Despite the ultra-slim design, the laptop features better performance and a strong body that uses materials found in race cars, such as carbon magnesium and lithium magnesium, LG said.
