[THE INVESTOR] Uber Eats, the food delivery service of US-based ride-hailing firm Uber Technologies, announced on Feb. 26 the appointment of David (Sang-wook) Park as the first head of its Korean operations.

Park is a so-called “creative strategy expert” who has previously worked at YouTube and CJ Entertainment. He will be tasked with diversifying Uber Eats’ Korean business, promoting expansion and building the brand as the firm seeks to attain a firm footing in the heated delivery market.

"David’s proven success in understanding the market and the needs of our Eats partners are skills that will lay a foundation for the future of our business in Korea," said Raj Beri, Uber Eats' Regional General Manager of Asia Pacific. "I am confident David will bring new momentum in driving our Eats Korea business, leading the team and helping our partners grow their business."

Park, who studied communications and journalism at Korea University, has more than 12 years of experience designing, strategizing, developing and distributing content. From 2007 to 2017, he was in charge of creative strategy at YouTube’s Asia-Pacific operations. Before that, he worked at CJ Entertainment America's international sales and marketing.

Uber Eats, which debuted in August 2017, is speeding up its expansion plans here. The app, which connects restaurants to customers, is available in Gangnam, Itaewon and Gwanak-gu of Seoul, seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., thanks to partnerships with over 500 outlets. It plans to soon begin services in other parts of Seoul.
