[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics on March 8 showcased new premium QLED TVs that come with various new features.

During the showcase event held in New York, the Korean tech giant introduced 16 models of its latest QLED TVs, ranging from 49-inch to 88-inch editions. Starting with the United States on March 18, the TVs will reach major markets. The release of the set in the company’s home market is slated for mid-April.

Samsung has been promoting QLED TVs based on the LCD technology as its premium models, which compares to LG Electronics, which has chosen OLED standards. The two players each claim its respective TVs come with better resolutions.

“The demand for TVs sized 75 inches and above has been increasing between 30 to 40 percent every year,” Samsung said. “This year, the size of the market will reach 2 million units.”

The company said the latest models will help Samsung tap deeper into the premium market, claiming its TVs accounted for around half of the market in the segment last year.

“With our 2018 TV lineup, we are changing the definition of visual displays to intelligent displays,” said Han Jong-hee, who heads Samsung’s display business. “Designed for total immersion and to enhance the daily lives of consumers everywhere, all while being incredibly easy to use, the new QLED TV lineup provides users with the best viewing experience.”
