[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics said on March 21 it has added solutions specialized for the Internet of Things and fingerprint scanning in its foundry portfolio.

The foundry business refers to making chips for other companies that do not have a semiconductor plant.

The Korean tech giant said it started shipping IoT and fingerprint sensor chips to clients, produced from 200-millimeter or 8-inch wafers.

“On top of its existing eFlash, Power, display driver IC and CMOS image sensor offerings, RF/IoT and fingerprint technology solutions are now available through Samsung’s foundry services,” the company said.

“By expanding our technology offerings into the RF/IoT and fingerprint segments, we will enable our customers to take advantage of Samsung’s state-of-the-art 8-inch solutions in a broader range of applications,” it added.

The frm currently operates 6-inch and 8-inch production lines in Giheung, located south of Seoul.
