[THE INVESTOR] Kia Motors said on March 28 it has opened a vocational training center in Rwanda as part of its ongoing global social outreach program.

The 8,700-square-meter center in Gahengeri in central Rwanda is designed to provide education on agricultural technology to local residents, Kia said.

The carmaker said it will be responsible for overall management of the center while entrusting Merry Year International, a Seoul-based nongovernmental organization, with education programs and maintenance of the center.

Kia said it expects about 1,300 local residents to receive useful vocational training at the facility.

The center is the latest in a series of facilities the carmaker has built in Africa in recent years as part of its Green Light Project.
