[THE INVESTOR] CJ O Shopping announced on March 30 that it will be introducing voice-enabled shopping in a collaborative effort with SK Telecom.

“We’ve become the first home shopping channel to begin voice-enabled shopping, which we believe will help customers enjoy a speedier, more convenient experience,” CJ O Shopping Executive Director Bang Chul-bae said in a statement.

Home shopping is normally done either through phone or an app. But with the new system, orders can now be placed through SK Broadband’s Btv set-top box, which has voice-activated assistant Nugu -- meaning “who” in Korean -- installed. All customers have to do is interlink their personal information at CJ O Shopping to SK Telecom’s Nugu in advance.

When customers give an order, the TV screen will automatically switch to product options, such as product color, size and amount. When they finish, they have to say “pay,” and the system will use the pre-installed information to make the payment and get the products delivered.

CJ O Shopping was established in 1994 and is currently the nation’s largest home shopping company. Last year, the company recorded 2.2 trillion won (US$2.06 billion) in sales with operating profit of 178.8 billion won.
