[THE INVESTOR] Starbucks Korea announced on April 3 that it has introduced voice-enabled ordering and paying by adopting Samsung’s AI-based Bixby voice assistant.

“We are glad to provide a more convenient ordering and payment environment to our customers,” Starbucks Korea CEO Lee Suk-gu said in a statement. “We hope to continue offering distinguished experiences through more digital innovations like this.”

For Samsung, the collaboration with Starbucks marks its first attempt to apply Bixby to a mobile ordering and payment system.

Orders can be placed through Bixby that’s currently available on models like Galaxy S9, S8, and Note 8. Customers can also pay for their orders with it, and search for Starbucks store information, including parking and drive-thru facility.

The Bixby move at Starbucks Coffee Korea comes just weeks after the coffee chain operator started operating cashless stores at some of its outlets.
