[THE INVESTOR] K-pop boy band BTS’ new album “Love Yourself: Tear” topped an Amazon preorder list on April 18.

Big Hit Entertainment, the management agency of BTS, said on April 19 that the album reached No. 1 on Amazon’s CDs & Vinyl Best Sellers list in the US just a day after preorders became available on April 17, local time. The official release is set for May 18.

In September, “Love Yourself: Her,” the first in the band’s “Love Yourself” series, had stayed at the top of the preorder list for six consecutive days. The album has so far sold over 1.49 million copies.

Due to BTS’ global fame, Big Hit Entertainment has also been garnering attention from investors, especially as the company is expected to soon go public. Last year, its operating profit more than doubled to 32.5 billion won (US$30 million) from a year ago. This was higher than its bigger rivals such as SM Entertainment, which posted 10.9 billion won and YG Entertainment with 25.2 billion won. Revenue soared 162 percent to 92.4 billion won on-year.
