[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Motor said on May 2 its April sales rose a solid 11 percent from a year earlier on recovering overseas demand for its vehicles.

Hyundai sold 391,197 vehicles in April, up from 352,219 units a year earlier helped by increased overseas sales, the company said in a statement.

“The monthly results were helped by increased shipments of the Kona subcompact SUV to overseas markets, recovering sales in China and robust sales in emerging markets, such as Brazil and Russia,” the statement said.

Domestic sales climbed 5.7 percent to 63,788 units last month from 60,361 a year ago and overseas sales were up 12 percent to 327,409 from 291.858 during the same period, it said.

In the January-April period, sales gained 1.5 percent to 1.44 million units from 1.42 million units a year earlier, the statement said.
