Hyundai to launch Veloster N performance car next month
[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Motor said on May 3 it will launch the high-performance Veloster N hot hatch in the domestic market next month.
The move is part of the Korean auto giant’s efforts to strengthen its brand image as solid carmaker by adding high-performance models to its product lineup.
The Veloster N will be the first high-performance model with the N badge to be launched in Korea. In overseas markets, Hyundai launched the i30N hot hatch in Europe in September.
The new model is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo engine, a six-speed manual transmission customized for a high-performance car and tires made by Michelin or Pirelli, the company said in a statement.
The car comes standard with launch controls, rev matching and electronic controlled suspension, the company said. Rev matching is used when downshifting to smooth the transition between different gears and prevent unnecessary shock to the transmission.
Hyundai plans to launch the Veloster N in the United States later this year, but it does not have a plan to sell the i30N model in Korea, a company spokesman said.
