[THE INVESTOR] Naver Labs, a research affiliate of Korea’s top portal operator Naver, said on May 25 it has joined ties with auto parts maker Mando to penetrate deeper into the self-driving automobile technologies.

Under the agreement, Naver will share its artificial intelligence and self-driving software technologies with Mando, which provide its radar and camera sensors for vehicles.

Established in 2017, Naver Labs has been making efforts to develop what it calls ambient-intelligence technology. It was the first local IT firm to win an approval from the country’s Land Ministry in February last year to test self-driving cars on roads.

“Mando holds leading technologies in the field of automotive parts and holds world-class capabilities in automobile sensors,” Naver Labs said.

Naver Labs said it will continue to expand ties with other partners to provide the industry with improved technologies.

Mando also said based on its 50 years of experience in automotive parts, it aims to take another step forward to build up its automotive technology under its partnership with Naver.
