[THE INVESTOR] Korea’s major tech giants Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics were named as two of the most admired brands in Africa this year, an industry tracker said on May 31.

According to the latest “Most Admired Brand in Africa” report released by Brand Africa, Samsung took the No. 2 spot in terms of popularity.

It marked a notch down from a year earlier, paving the way for US apparel firm Nike to become the top player.

Samsung, however, still maintained its lead against US archrival Apple, which came in fifth, Brand Africa said.

The report also showed Samsung took the No. 1 spot in eight of the 23 African countries surveyed.

LG also moved four notches down on-year to stand at the 10th place.

With Samsung and LG both still being included in the top 10 list, however, industry watchers said the report indicates Korea maintains a solid reputation for the IT industry in Africa.
