[THE INVESTOR] KT, Korea’s second-largest mobile carrier, said on June 26 that it plans to showcase high-end 5G technology during the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2018.

The Korean company said it will operate a booth along with the Global System for Mobile Communications, an association that supports mobile operators, during the electronics fair that will kick off on June 27 for a three-day run.

KT will demonstrate its 5G wireless technology in self-driving cars, as well as the latest 5G-linked platform that measures fine dust called the GIGA IoT Air Map.

The company has been stepping up efforts to expedite the commercialization of 5G technology, currently slated to start next March.

KT said it is the only local mobile carrier that will participate in the fair, with its main rivals in its home market, SK Telecom and LG Uplus, to be absent from the gathering.
