[THE INVESTOR]  E-mart announced that it is set to launch its first cosmetics outlet Scentence in Saudi Arabia on July 22.

“The fast-growing cosmetics industry in Middle East is an attractive market, and we are expecting stable growth there due to boom of K-beauty,” E-mart official Jung Kyung-Ah, who works in Health& Beauty sector, said in a statement.

Established in 2016, Scentence is the Korean retail giant’s cosmetics specialty store that focuses on scents.

The new Scentence store will be located in a local shopping mall, Al Nakheel Mall, at Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh, which is operated by the Saudi Arabian retail giant Fawaz Alhokair. The mall has over 186 global brands including ZARA and GAP, with over 25,000 visitors daily.

In November last year, the partnership contract between E-mart and the Middle Eastern country’s major retail group was signed. The deal came amid the Korean retail giant’s attempt to tap deeper into foreign markets after withdrawing its business from China due to a row over the deployment of an anti-missile system.

“We are currently discussing with our local partner about opening more stores in Saudi Arabia,” Jung added. The Korean retailer aims to open additional outlets in Riyadh and Jiddah before the end of this year.

E-mart currently operates 36 stores in Korea. The outlet in Saudi Arabia is E-mart’s first overseas Scentence store that is not located in its discount chain, like its two outlets in Mongol.
