Financial firms cut about 10,000 jobs in 3 years

[THE INVESTOR] The number of employees at financial firms has been slashed by some 10,000 in the past three years, data showed on July 25.

According to the data from corporate tracker CEO Score, 321 financial firms had a total of 209,079 employees at the end of March this year.

Compared with the end of March in 2015, the number of workers at such firms was cut by 10,385, or 4.7 percent, the findings showed.

Job cuts by banks significantly rose during the three-year period. The number of employees at banks stood at 108,927 at the end of March, down 9,725 jobs from three years ago, according to the data.

Kookmin Bank, KEB Hana Bank and Woori Bank eliminated 4,327, 2,815, and 1,154 jobs, respectively, during the three-year period.

Life insurers cut 1,875 jobs as part of their efforts to cut costs amid falling profitability, the latest data showed.
