[THE INVESTOR] Jeju Self-Governing Province Gov. Won Hee-ryong rolled out the red carpet for global blockchain investors on Aug. 3, inviting them to set up base on Korea’s largest resort island.

“Let’s explore the new world of blockchain business together,” he said in a speech at the two-day Huobi Carnival conference hosted by Huobi Korea. “I will make Jeju Province the model of blockchain hub just like Zug, Malta and Singapore.”

As a free international city Jeju can provide a business-friendly environment for the blockchain industry, he stressed. “I will encourage cryptocurrency exchanges on the island and guarantee cryptocurrency and blockchain business activities.”

Won, a former three-term lawmaker who became governor in 2014, vowed to make the island a rulemaker in the cryptocurrency and blockchain businesses.

He vowed to discuss with the central government to make Jeju a successful blockchain hub.

“Korea has never been a leader in software and blockchain is its first opportunity to lead the future platform,” Won said.
