[THE INVESTOR] The head of Samsung Electronics’ mobile business is set to participate in a showcase event for the Galaxy Note 9 in India later this week, corporate sources said on Aug. 21.

The Korean tech giant plans to hold the showcase event of the Note 9 on Aug. 22, with Koh Dong-jin taking part in the presentation.

“The Indian smartphone market is growing sharply. With the company also recently building a smartphone factory in India, Koh decided to participate in the event,” a source at Samsung said.

Samsung has been losing ground in the Indian market amid the rising presence of Chinese rivals.

In the fourth quarter of 2017, Samsung lost its throne to China’s Xiaomi. In the second quarter of this year, the difference in market share between the two companies was in the 1 to 2-percentage point range.

Koh said in the United States earlier this month that Samsung is leading the Indian market in terms of revenue and outpaced Xiaomi in terms of units sold in the April-June period.

Samsung also plans to showcase new Galaxy A smartphones in India following the release of the Note 9.
