[THE INVESTOR] SsangYong Motor said on Aug. 27 that the accumulated sales of its Sports crossover trucks have reached 450,000 units.

The Korean carmaker said the sales of its latest Rexton Sports crossover hovered above 20,000 units as of July 9, six months since its release. Sales of the car reached 24,336 vehicles as of the end of last month.

The company’s Sports-labeled cars refer to vehicles that are a mix between regular crossovers and pickup trucks, or what the company calls sport utility trucks.

The monthly sales of Rexton Sports came to 3,300 units, beating the company’s initial expectation of 2,500 units.

SsangYong has been applying the Sports brand to versions of the Rexton, Korando and Musso SUVs. The company said it aims to penetrate deeper into the SUT segment.

The carmaker released the Musso Sports in 2002, which was the company’s first-generation SUT.

SsangYong claimed that the Sports automobiles have been able to maintain their popularity among local consumers as they boast top-notch performance even while off-roading, with the price also being competitive.
