[THE INVESTOR] KT Corp. said on Aug. 29 it has partnered with the US chip giant Intel to develop an ecosystem for high-end 5G technology.

Korea’s No. 2 mobile carrier will cooperate in delivering innovative solutions for 5G with a foundation of Intel architecture, according to the company‘s press release.

The telco will develop the Edge platform to deliver 5G service by utilizing Intel’s mobile trial platform and processors.

KT said it will also join hands with Qwilt, a US provider of content delivery and open caching solutions, to construct a communication network by utilizing such solutions.

The firm said earlier it would start commercial operations of its 5G mobile network in March 2019. Data transmission speeds are 40-50 times faster than the existing 4G network or LTE and are expected to open a wide range of new business opportunities for the communications sector.
