[THE INVESTOR] GC Medical Science said Sept. 12 it has broken ground for a plant that will manufacture hemodialysis solutions.

Covering an area of 22,000 square meters in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province, the facility will be completed by June next year and begin commercial operations in 2020, according to the company.

The new facility will have an annual capacity of 4.1 million hemodialysis solutions. It is over triple the capacity of its existing production site in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

“This plant is the largest automated hemodialysis solution production facility in Korea,” said GS MS CEO Ahn Eun-uk. “We will continue to be the first company in the domestic market to produce hemodialysis fluids.”

GC MS, which produces around 45 percent of the hemodialysis solutions in the market here, expects that the new plant will contribute to stable supplies as the market grows by 7-9 percent a year.
