[THE INVESTOR] Renault Samsung Motors said on Oct. 1 its September sales plunged 44 percent from a year earlier on weaker overseas demand for its vehicles.

The carmaker sold 14,582 vehicles last month, down from 26,182 units a year earlier, the company said in a statement.

“In September, sales fell due to the temporary production of existing models ahead of the launch of upgraded versions and fewer working days because of the Chuseok holiday during the month,” the statement said.

Domestic sales fell 8.8 percent to 6,713 units last month from 7,362 units a year ago. Exports nosedived 58 percent to 7,869 autos from 18,820 during the same period, the statement said.

From January to September, sales were down 16 percent on-year to 171,895 autos from 204,840, it said.

The company’s current lineup includes the SM3 compact, the all-electric SM3 Z.E. sedan, the QM3 small SUV and the SM5, SM6 and SM7 sedans.
