[THE INVESTOR] Korean network operator KT said on Oct. 22 that it will take part in a project for LTE services in Botswana.

The project is part of KT’s long-term partnership with local telecom firm Botswana Telecommunications Corp. to improve telecom infrastructure in the region.

The Korean firm, which has been running projects to install IT infrastructure in Botswana since 2014, offered consulting services to refurbish BTC’s mobile and landline network infrastructure in 2017.

In the latest project, KT will help the local telecom company to design and build the LTE network infrastructure.

The Korean firm said it would try to transfer its expertise in running the telecom network to its African partner. For the first three months of the project, it will work on designing and installing the LTE infrastructure, and will test run it before commercialization for around eight months when the installation of the related facilities is completed.

“KT has been offering consulting services for landline and wireless network technologies to global partners based on its rich experience and technical expertise in network operations,” said Hwang Woo-keun, head of global technology consulting unit of the company, adding the company will expand the network consulting business in the global market.

In Chile, the Seoul-headquartered network operator partnered with local firms in August to build a network of submarine cables.
