[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Mobis said on Oct. 24 it has developed an advanced headlamp system that can generate demand in overseas markets.

The advanced adaptive driving beam headlight system allows wide visibility for drivers by enabling a vehicle to be driven with high-beams all the time while avoiding glare to oncoming cars or vehicles ahead, Hyundai Mobis said in a statement.

“On the highway, the AADB system, unlike existing arrangements, does not deliver glaring light to the drivers of oncoming buses. This is a selling point of the new system,” a company spokesman said.

Installed cameras in older-generation adaptive driving beam systems recognize oncoming cars in the same lane and vehicles (except for buses and trucks) on the highway, but AADB systems recognize vehicles driving ahead in the same lane as well as oncoming cars in the opposite lane. Working together with various sensors, such systems can achieve fully automatic light distribution control.

Hyundai Mobis has exported US$3.4 billion worth of headlamps since 2010. It posted a net profit of 1.019 trillion won (US$898 million) in the January-June period, down 18 percent from 1.244 trillion won a year earlier.
