[THE INVESTOR] Korea’s leading fintech firm Viva Republica, maker of financial services app Toss, has ranked 28th in KPMG’s The Fintech100, the company said on Oct. 25.

The ranking of Toss jumped from 35th last year in the five-year-old list compiled by KPMG Fintech and Fintech investment firm H2 Ventures.

“We are delighted to be named one of the top 100 fintech companies in the world,” Viva Republica founder and CEO Lee Seung-gun said. “We will continue to do our best to provide our customers with the best fintech services in the world and also do our part for the development of the country’s entire fintech industry.”

H2 Ventures and KPMG researched 1,000 fintech companies around the world and chose 100 based on factors including average annual capital raised, rate of recent capital raising and geographic diversity.

As in last year’s list, China represents five of the top 10 fintech companies in 2018. This follows the trend from previous years, as Chinese incumbents continue to scale with a heavy emphasis on payments and insurance, the report said.

Last year Viva Republica was the first Korean company to be included in the list, but this year it was joined by DAYLI Financial Group which came in at 74th.
