[THE INVESTOR] T-ONE Mobility, which was set up jointly by four taxi unions including Korea National Joint Conference of Taxi Association and Korean Taxi Worker’s Union, announced on Jan. 7 that it will launch its own cab-hailing service T-ONE Taxi this month.

T-ONE Taxi application

The company plans to start the app-based operations on Jan. 20 to compete with Kakao Mobility’s KakaoTaxi and T-Map Taxi of SK Telecom.

T-ONE Mobility said the convenient features include certification of taxi drivers, safety and call services. It is possible to check the location of taxis allotted to passengers in real time on the in-built map.

In the face of intense controversy over the introduction of car pool services in Korea, the taxi operators seem to be determined to overcome the negative public opinion that they are against the trend.

Taxi labor unions have shown their commitment to participate, so it will not be difficult to recruit drivers, the firm said.

The company predicts that it will recruit about 150,000 to 250,000 drivers for T-ONE Taxi. If it attracts up to 250,000 drivers, it will exceed the number of drivers of KakaoTaxi.
