Co-space giant WeWork announced on Feb. 11 that it has received more than 1,000 applications for Seoul Creator Awards, an event for creators that will be co-hosted with Seoul Metropolitan Government in the city.

The number, highest in Asia since the competition was first held in March 2017, reflects the popularity of the event among creators in Korea, the company said.

“I was aware of the fact that Korea is full of creators with enthusiasm and capability, but I am truly impressed with the number of applications that we received for the Seoul Creator Awards,” said WeWork Korea General Manager Matthew Shampine.

“I am very much looking forward to the live stage where the finalists will present their ideas with passion,” he added.

The first regional event in 2019 will be hosted together by the office-sharing firm and the city government to support innovative projects run by local creators ranging from entrepreneurs and startups to performers and nonprofit organizations who exemplify the WeWork mantra: “Create Your Life’s Work.” The selected finalists will be announced in mid-February.

The selected finalists will be invited to give presentations at the Seoul Creator Awards in front of a panel of judges on February 28th at DDP, an exhibition complex in the city.

WeWork’s annual competition has attracted more than 40,000 attendees and has given away millions of dollars to over 200 winners in 15 regional events held around the globe, plus two global final events, held in New York in January 2018 and in Los Angeles in January 2019, respectively.
