Seoul stocks down for 3rd day on Washington-Beijing trade row

South Korean stocks extended their losing streak for the third day on May 8 amid the deepening trade dispute between the United States and China. The Korean won lost ground against the US dollar.

The benchmark Kospi fell 8.98 points, or 0.41 percent, to close at 2,168.01. Trading volume was moderate at 472 million shares worth 5.33 trillion won ($4.56 billion), with losers outpacing gainers 484 to 334.

The local currency closed at 1,169.40 won against the US dollar, down 2.85 won from the previous session.
