Tech giant Samsung Electronics took the wraps off its new larger-screen smartphone models, Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus, on Aug. 7 in New York, aiming to vitalize the slowing smartphone sales in the face of fierce competition in the smartphone market.
With the new Note lineup, Samsung has put focus on offering an enhanced cross-device experience, and a range of video features for the digital generation.
“The Galaxy Note 10 reimagines this promise for the modern fans who use their smartphone to take their productivity and creativity to the next level, and who effortlessly flow between ideas and endeavors at a moment’s notice,” said Koh Dong-jin, CEO of Samsung’s IT and mobile communications division.
“Every element of the Galaxy Note 10 was designed to help users achieve more. Whether they’re finishing a big project for work, capturing and editing a video, or playing their favorite mobile games, the Galaxy Note 10 will help them do it faster and better.”
Partnering with Microsoft, Samsung enables users to connect the smartphone with a Windows 10 PC conveniently by just tapping a button on the screen. Users can check notifications on their PCs and transfer photos in a seamless manner across the devices.
With the USB connection, the Note 10 can also be paired with PCs and Apple’s Mac computers, allowing users to utilize mobile apps on desktops or laptops.
The Note 10’s rear-facing triple-lens camera lets users create augmented reality effects on images and capture photos in 3D. The easy-to-use video editing tool preinstalled in the smartphone helps users to edit videos on the go, according to the firm.
The Note 10 and Note 10 Plus are installed with 6.3-inch and 6.8-inch AMOLED screens, respectively. The larger variant is fitted with a 4,300 mAh battery while the Note 10 has a 3,500 mAh battery.
Only the 5G model will be available in South Korea, while those running on the LTE and 5G networks will be launched in global markets.
Following the suit of Apple, Samsung has also removed the headphone jack from its two new Note smartphones. The removal of the audio jack allows the devices to be slimmer than their predecessor -- the Note 9 is 8.8 millimeters thick while the Note 10 duos are 7.9mm in thickness.
The screen-to-body ratio stands at 93.7 percent for the Note 10 and 94.7 percent for the Note 10 Plus -- larger than 89.5 percent for the Note 9 and 92.4 percent for the Galaxy S10 Plus.
Samsung is betting big on the newly unveiled Note lineup amid the sliding profits of the smartphone business. Its operating profit during the April-June period stood at 1.56 trillion won ($1.29 billion), down 41.6 percent from a year earlier.
The official launch of the Note 10 smartphones will take place on Aug. 23 in South Korea.
