Discussions revolve around strengthening bilateral partnership and ensuring business continuity amid uncertain times
The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea held a special meeting in Seoul on Wednesday with Gyeonggi Province to discuss strategies for fostering economic cooperation and strengthening bilateral ties between South Korea and the US.
The session, led by AmCham Chair and CEO James Kim and Gyeonggi Province Gov. Kim Dong-yeon, focused on investment opportunities and initiatives to enhance Korea's position as a regional business hub amid political uncertainties. Representatives from AmCham member companies joined discussions on attracting multinational corporations to the province.
“We are honored to host Gov. Kim as US-Korea relations reach new heights,” said CEO Kim, adding that he has been impressed by the governor’s passion for the US. “Under his leadership, Gyeonggi Province has become a global economic hub, and AmCham is proud to support initiatives that strengthen our bilateral partnerships.”
Emphasizing the need to create an environment conducive to attracting multinational corporations, CEO Kim further stated that Korea’s immense potential to become a leading business hub in the Asia-Pacific region requires “collaboration to address challenges, enhance regulatory clarity and encourage sustained investment.”
Korea’s status as a trusted partner of the US will remain firm and strong, he added, noting the reciprocal nature of the relationship in which the US benefits greatly from the significant contributions of Korean companies.
Gov. Kim reaffirmed his commitment to advancing economic cooperation and creating an optimal business environment to attract foreign direct investment. “Gyeonggi Province is dedicated to collaborating with AmCham in areas such as semiconductors, future mobility and biotechnology to foster a vibrant and sustainable business ecosystem,” he said.
The governor also highlighted key initiatives to support foreign-invested companies while endorsing active participation from AmCham member companies.
Expressing optimism for another record-breaking year in the partnership, AmCham also pledged to support the success of the upcoming APEC Summit in Korea, a platform to showcase the country’s resilience and strategic value on the global stage.
