Korea Medical Institute announced Friday the opening of its newly expanded Gwanghwamun Medical Checkup Center, offering upgraded facilities and improved accessibility in the heart of Seoul.

The new center, located in the Gwanghwamun Building (formerly Donghwa Duty-Free Building), spans 4,208 square meters, 300 square meters larger than its previous location. Its central location ensures convenient access by public transportation, making health screenings more accessible for clients, the institute said.

The expanded center provides a range of services, including national health screenings, cancer checkups and comprehensive and specialized health exams. With 263 staff members, including 28 medical specialists and 155 examination rooms -- up from 112 -- the facility is equipped to serve more visitors efficiently.

KMI has also introduced a smart health screening system using radio-frequency identification technology to reduce waiting times and streamline client workflow, according to the institute. Advanced diagnostic equipment, such as a 3.0T MRI, has been added to improve accuracy and speed in detecting health issues.

Additional features include a Smart Health Experience Zone, where visitors can try the latest health management devices, and an International Healthcare Center that offers multilingual support, including interpretation and consultation services for non-Korean-speaking clients.

“The Gwanghwamun Medical Checkup Center has been at the heart of KMI’s operations for over 30 years. This expansion positions us as a leader in client-centric, smart healthcare,” KMI Honorary Chairwoman Kim Soon-eh said.

KMI Chairman Lee Kwang-bae added to the sentiment: “Celebrating our 40th anniversary this year, we are committed to advancing public health and continuing our mission to protect health and benefit the world.”

Founded in 1985, KMI operates eight medical checkup centers across Korea, focusing on disease prevention, early detection and public health promotion.
