[THE INVESTOR] Korea’s cryptocurrency exchange Coinone announced on Aug. 27 that it has officially commenced operations in Indonesia.

The official launch of the first Korean exchange to foray into overseas markets came almost two months after running a beta service.

Coinone Indonesia supports trading of seven major digital currencies including Bitcoin and Ethereum and plans to list more coins in the future, the company said.

“Indonesia will play a crucial role in Coinone’s global strategy,” Coinone CEO Cha Myung-hoon said. “As we have implemented the best technologies, I’m confident that the Indonesia unit will lead the nation’s blockchain and cryptocurrency industry.”

“Based on our five-year experience in Korea, we plan to provide the safest and most convenient cryptocurrency trading services in Indonesia and help build a healthy crypto market,” Alan Song, CEO of Coinone Indonesia, noted.

To commemorate the launch, Coinone Indonesia is giving out 10,000 IDR (US$0.68) for new registrations.

Coinone said it expects many cryptocurrency and blockchain-backed business opportunities in Indonesia, as the country’s economy is showing rapid growth with a population of 260 million. It has also shown brisk development in IT and financial technologies.
