Samsung Electronics’ projector-free cinema LED solution has made inroads into 16 countries since its debut two years ago, industry sources said on March 26.

The South Korean tech giant showcased the Samsung Onyx Theater, an LED display brand designed exclusively for cinemas, at CinemaCon, the world’s biggest film industry fair, in Las Vegas in March 2017. 

Samsung says theaters with the Onyx solutions provide extremely high contrast, vivid content and HDR images that can expand the boundaries of existing systems and add another level of immersive experience.

After introducing Onyx to theaters in Seoul and Busan, Samsung tapped Thailand as the first overseas market for the solution.

Since then, the cinema LED solution has been installed at 32 theaters in countries that include the United States, France and China.

China has the most theaters with Samsung Onyx with seven, followed by India with five, and Korea and Malaysia with three each.
