NHN Payco said on July 22 that its Payco Point payment solution will be available on video streaming service YouTube, marking the first partnership between a South Korean mobile payment solution firm and the US streaming giant.

NHN Payco’s solution was introduced in app store Google Play as a payment option in November 2017, and garnered popularity among mobile users here since then for its convenience in buying apps and media contents. 

YouTube users can pay for a range of subscription services on the streaming site, including ad-free video and music streaming service YouTube Premium, movie streaming platform YouTube Movies, and Super Chat, a tool that lets viewers to pin their comments on live streams.

Users can simply get their Payco account linked to their YouTube accounts to use the payment solution. Those who already use Payco Point on Google Play can utilize the payment solution without synching their accounts to the video streaming site.

“The addition of the payment option to YouTube is aimed at responding to the explosive growth of over-the-top services. This will become a good opportunity for Payco to get closer to millennials who are the main consumers of video contents” said Jeong Yeon-hun, the CEO of NHN Payco.

“The company will strengthen its partnership with Google to make Payco Point a more attractive payment method for mobile game and streaming video markets.”
