[THE INVESTOR] Scores of top executives from tech giants Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics will participate in the CES electronics trade show in Las Vegas, which will kick off on Jan. 5.

The top executives from Samsung include Yoon Boo-keun, the chief of the firm’s consumer electronics business unit and Kim Hyun-seok, head of the visual display business division.

Reflecting Samsung’s efforts to grow its automotive parts business, Park Jong-hwan, the head of the vehicle parts business team, will also take part in the electronics trade show. Samsung took over US infotainment system firm Harman for US$8 billion in November in a bid to increase its foothold in the automotive parts segment.

CEOs and executives from Samsung Group’s affiliates, mostly electronics parts businesses including Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Samsung SDI, are also expected to partake in the trade show to meet with global partners and discuss future business partnerships, according to sources.

Samsung Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, however, will miss the world’s largest electronics trade show as he has been banned from leaving the country due to the ongoing probe into the alleged links between the tech firm and Choi Soon-sil, who is at the center of the recent influence-peddling scandal surrounding President Park Geun-hye.

From Samsung’s rival LG, Jo Seong-jin, who was recently promoted to oversee the tech firm’s entire business operations as CEO, will fly to Las Vegas to monitor the latest tech trends and hold meetings with the firm’s partners.

Song Dae-hyun, the head of LG’s home appliance & air solutions unit; Lee Woo-jong, the head of vehicle components unit; and Kwon Bong-seok, the head of the home entertainment unit, will accompany the LG CEO to the CES.

CEOs of other LG Group affiliates, including Han Sang-beom of LG Display and Kwon Young-soo of LG Uplus, will also try to meet with their existing partners and try to find overseas business opportunities at the annual electronics trade show.
