Ssangyong Motor reported on Feb. 1 that its sales jumped 3.4 percent in January from a year earlier, largely due to the popularity of the Tivoli sport utility vehicle.
Domestic sales accounted for 7,015 units, up 6.8 percent, and exports were down 3 percent from the same month last year at 3,405 units. The company said the overall sales increase came despite negative factors such as less number of working days from the Lunar New Year holiday and the end of the grand sale period.
Tivoli models continued on their popularity streak at home, selling 3,851 units, an increase of 19.5 percent on-year as well as overseas.
Exports were affected by global market downturn but propped up somewhat by the 16.7 percent shipment increase to Middle East countries, which last year became the biggest export market for the automaker.
