[THE INVESTOR] SK Telecom stated on Feb. 15 that it has successfully developed and demonstrated a joint network slicing with its German and Swedish partners, a new means of connectivity based on 5G roaming.

“5G does not stop at just providing fast speed. It provides stable high-immersion service no matter where a customer is located physically. With the federated network slicing, the development of 5G-based global service will begin in earnest,” said Choi Jin-sung, chief technology officer at SK Telecom.

Deutsche Telecom and Ericsson were the partners in the trial test of “federated network slicing,” conducted in Bonn, Germany, and Incheon, South Korea, on Feb. 14, the company said.

The trial proved successful in connecting different parts of the world to enable a repair worker to carry out maintenance on an aircraft by communicating via augmented reality with colleagues at other locations.
