[
THE INVESTOR] Foreign investors’ net purchases of South Korean stocks so far in 2017 have been the biggest among eight emerging markets, brokerage data showed on March 22.
According to the data by Yuanta Securities, foreign investors’ net buying of South Korean stocks between Jan. 1 and March 17 stood at US$4.6 billion.
During the same period, foreign investors remained net buyers of Indonesian stocks, purchasing a net $4.2 billion worth of the stocks.
Foreign investors also purchased a net $4.1 billion worth of Taiwanese stocks during the period. Other emerging markets included Brazil, Indonesia and Vietnam.
Analysts pointed out that foreigners probably snapped up South Korean stocks as they were deemed undervalued. The risk appetite of foreign investors for South Korean stocks has been also strengthened in recent months, although the nation’s economy faces uncertainties over US interest rate hikes, analysts said.
