[THE INVESTOR] SK Telecom is expanding its business utilizing big data technology, said Eugene Investment and Securities on May 24, maintaining a “buy” recommendation and 300,000 won (US$266.31) target price.

The telco has been spreading out from its conventional network to media, IoT and commerce from last year, building a business portfolio centered around its platforms, and at the core is its big data, said analyst Kim Jun-seob.

Through the big data gathered from its channels, it will be able to collect algorithms, for example, to improve customer experience and estimate potential breakaways, said the analyst.

SK Broadband’s recent drama remake “1 Percent of Something” was based on its big data, and the fact that it was a success signals that its technology is securing a foothold as a new growth momentum, noted Kim.
