Former Apple chief designer leaves Huawei after less than 2 years

[THE INVESTOR] Former Apple creative director Abigail Brody has recently stepped down as chief user experience designer at Chinese smartphone maker Huawei after less than two years in the key post, according to her blog post on May 28.

The star designer joined Huawei in September 2015 and worked as chief designer and president for the Chinese tech giant’s future rebranding and redesign of user experience and device design until May this year.




“Now, after a very long time working for large companies, I have decided to focus on projects of my own and I am ‘attempting to do that one thing’ that I have been mediating over my paperweight for a very long time, which is my startup, currently code-named Abalone,” she said.

Her LinkedIn profile says her new startup Abalone aims to build the “world’s most integrated creative software platform yet.”

She didn’t further elaborate why she quit Huawei. The Information reported the San Francisco-based designer had some difficulties in communicating with her team at the Shenzhen headquarters.

Prior to joining Huawei, she was more recently the vice president of global design at eBay and PayPal.
