[THE INVESTOR] Ourhome, one of the top food catering service firms in Korea, said on May 29 that it has expanded its business operations in Vietnam and China.

In Vietnam, the firm has started providing meals for workers at LG Innotek’s production facility from April. The food catering company -- owned by the LG Group founding family -- serves an average 500 meals per day and expects to expand the number to 1,000 by end-2017.

The firm localized the menu in Vietnam by preparing ‘V food’ section and also has ‘K food’ section for those who want to try Korean food due to the popularity of K-drama’s and pop culture that feature local dishes.

In China, Ourhome has signed five contracts including one to provide meals for 1,500 people working at a building in Zhongguancun district, widely known as China’s Silicon Valley, in Beijing. Ourhome began its Chinese business in 2010.

Other top food catering companies such as Samsung Welstory, Hyundai Green Food, CJ Freshway and Shinsegae Food are also expanding their business overseas such as China and Vietnam.

Samsung Welstory has the highest sales abroad. Samsung’s sales grew from 30.7 billion won (US$ 27.30 million) in 2014 to 134 billion won in 2016.
